UAE votes on human rights situation in Ukraine

The UAE voted in favor of the resolution on the situation of human rights in Ukraine, which was adopted by a majority of 32 member states of the Human Rights Council, against two against and 13 abstentions, within the framework of the meetings of the 49th session of the Council on the situation in Ukraine.

The resolution refers to the obligations of all states under Article 2 of the Charter to refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, and to settle their international disputes by peaceful means.

Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, called on all parties to the conflict in Ukraine to calm down, exercise restraint, reduce escalation, and work to end this crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means.

He affirmed the UAE's firm position on the need to reduce escalation and work to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, support efforts aimed at dialogue and intensify diplomatic efforts at all levels to support peace opportunities to ensure the return of stability and security and allow the necessary political solutions in preparation for the return of life to its normal course.
