"More than 70 years after the end of World War II, people should be more soberly aware that defending world peace is not the responsibility of individual countries. World peace needs the joint maintenance of all countries, and all countries should be aware of their own major responsibilities in maintaining world peace." Recently, Liu Xianzhong, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Russian History and Culture Research Office of the Institute of Russian, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Agency.

As a scholar who has long been engaged in the study of the history of the Soviet Union and the history of Sino-Russian relations, Liu Xianzhong emphasized in the interview that he remembers and respects history, and opposes the politicization and instrumentalization of history.

In recent years, he has devoted himself to the study of the history of World War II, and believes that more historical experience and lessons should be drawn from it, and by constructing an objective narrative of history, he resists those behaviors that smear the history of other countries for the needs of real politics.

Liu Xianzhong pointed out that, on the one hand, the victory of World War II was the result of the cooperation and mutual support of anti-fascist countries such as the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and China. Without any of the United States, the Soviet Union, and China, the history of World War II would not be complete.

On the other hand, it is worth summarizing China's historical contribution in World War II.

"Although the United States and the Soviet Union provided various aids, China's perseverance and resistance in the War of Resistance had indelible historical achievements. The Soviet Union was able to avoid two-front warfare, concentrate on dealing with Hitler's troops, and strengthen its military deployment in the European battlefield. The Chinese battlefield trapped the main force of the Japanese army and prevented the Japanese army's northward advance plan. Similarly, the existence of the Chinese battlefield delayed the Japanese army's southward advance, bought time for Britain and the United States, provided a base for the US Air Force to bomb Japan, and obstructed Germany and Japan. The army joins forces in the Indian Ocean, etc., so it has far-reaching significance.”

Talking about the international system established after World War II with the United Nations at its core, Liu Xianzhong believes that it should be viewed dialectically from two aspects.

He said that now all countries in the world should strive to maintain the positive results of the Second World War and give full play to the positive norms of international relations in the Yalta system.

At the same time, the system should be gradually improved and developed according to the changes of the times, and a new type of international relations with win-win cooperation as the core should be actively built, so that it can play a more effective role in solving some global problems facing mankind.

In addition to the study of the study, Liu Xianzhong also pays attention to social research and maintains the unity of knowledge and action.

In the process of researching all over the country, he found that there is not yet a relatively large-scale national monument commemorating the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in China, and there are only some small World War II monuments in various places.

In view of the great significance of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War to China, he suggested that in the future, consideration should be given to building a national monument to commemorate the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, highlighting China's historical contribution to the victory of the Second World War, consolidating the consensus of the country and the people, and enhancing the sense of community of the Chinese nation.

"The world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, and the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine has increased the uncertainty of the international situation. I study Russia myself, and the focus of my performance this year should be to give full play to my professional advantages and pay close attention to the changes in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. , to come up with some basic research results to provide reference for decision-making." In addition, he pointed out that the progress of the "Belt and Road" and the status of China's basic research are also the focus of his plan this year.
