The alarm came just before two o'clock during the night towards Saturday about a fire in the large industrial building where metal shavings are recycled.

The rescue service is on site with forces from both Avesta, Norberg and Fagersta.

- We actually make a passive effort, which means that we do not put out the fire, we judge that it is not possible.

We only monitor until it burns out, says Kamil Bialas, regional task leader at the rescue service in southern Dalarna.

VMA issued

Shortly after 3 o'clock, the rescue leader issued a so-called VMA, an important message to the public, and urged everyone in the area to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation.

- There is strong smoke development from the fire which, due to the wind direction, drives towards central Fagersta, he says.

No direct spread risk

There is no direct risk of spreading to surrounding buildings and the hope is also that the fire stays to the part that is already burning.

- We do not think there is that much combustible material in the other part of the building.

But it remains to be seen, says Kamil Bialas and continues:

- We will probably have to stay for a few more hours until everything has burned out.
