The Scot had parted ways with Jamie Delgado in December, who had been by his side since the departure of Amélie Mauresmo in 2016.

Andy Murray first worked in 2012 with Lendl, winner of eight Grand Slams as a player.

The advice of the Czech had helped him to pocket his first major tournament with the US Open 2012 and then to follow up with a prestigious victory at Wimbledon the following summer.

Murray and Lendl then separated in 2014, before reuniting in 2016. The Czech technician had accompanied the Scot to his second Wimbledon and his second Olympic gold medal in singles, obtained at the Rio Games, then the place world number 1.

In November 2017, Murray and Lendl had again left.

The former world number 1 is struggling to return to the highest level and is ranked 84th in the world, after a series of disappointing results since his final at ATP Sydney in January, before the Australian Open.

Murray, however, did not say whether Lendl, now 61 and a naturalized American, would travel with him to the tournaments.

But he will train with him in March, after the major meetings of Indian Wells and Miami on the ATP circuit.
