Liberal Macron launched his candidacy as late as Thursday.

He promised to work for a stronger France and Europe in the face of an "accumulation of crises".

Macron hopes to be the first French president to be re-elected in the 21st century and so far it looks good in public opinion.

In the latest opinion polls, Macron receives support of 27-29 percent.

The main competitor seems to be the National Collection Marine Le Pen, which gets 17-18 percent in the measurements.

The right-wing nationalist Le Pen was also in the last presidential election against Macron in the second and decisive round of elections.

The top duo is overshadowed in public opinion by a trio.

Republican Valérie Pécresse receives support of 13-14 percent.

On the left is Jean Luc Mélenchon with 10-11 percent in the opinion polls and the most right-wing extremist candidate Éric Zemmour gets a support of about 12 percent in the latest polls.

The French presidential election is decided in two rounds.

In the first round on April 10, two candidates will be nominated against each other in the decisive round on April 24.
