An 18-year-old young man appeared before the criminal court of Évry-Courcouronnes for having robbed 19 cars and stolen a vehicle in Saint-Pierre-du-Perray and Saint-Germain-lès-Corbeil (Essonne), the night of 30 November 2021. He was sentenced to 8 months in prison, reports

.

The defendant said he did so to repay 1,200 euros in debt to threatening creditors.

167 unpaid fines and 30,000 euros in debt

Since 2018, the young man has also accumulated more than 30,000 euros in debt after having received 167 fines for not wearing a mask and not respecting the curfew.

His lawyer explained that due to a very difficult family situation, he had no choice but to risk a fine to flee the "slum" which served as his accommodation.

Already sentenced for possession of narcotics and refusal to comply when he was a minor, the young man says today that he aspires to a "stable life".
