Emmanuel Macron is officially a candidate for re-election.

The President of the Republic announced this Friday his candidacy for a second term in a letter to the French published on the sites of several media.

In Le Touquet, this formalization is experienced as a non-event, the inhabitants are rather satisfied.

The end of a false suspense.

Emmanuel Macron announced this Friday morning his candidacy for the next presidential election in a letter published in the regional press.

The Head of State will have waited until the last moment for the officialization.

Even if they expected it, the inhabitants of Le Touquet, in Hauts-de-France, are satisfied with the candidacy of the President of the Republic.

"The only one to hold the road"

In front of the president's villa, a few onlookers walk around with a smile.

Certainly there was little suspense, but most are still delighted with the candidacy of the Head of State.

"It's a good thing especially in the current situation and in particular what is happening in Ukraine. He is the only one to hold the road and then he demonstrated that he had the shoulders", notes this Touquettois with reference in particular to the Covid-19 crisis.

Other residents, however, regret this too late announcement.

"I would have preferred him to declare himself well before and accept the debates. He is leaking a little and impossible to discuss his balance sheet", regrets this other resident.

A non-event

A few meters from the villa of the Head of State, in rue Saint-Jean, the main artery, Huguette reads the letter attentively.

An officialization altogether trivial according to her.

"It's been a non-event but finally he had to declare his candidacy, no choice. The letter to the French is very welcome, especially in this context", she judges before adding.

"Nothing shocking, the priorities are elsewhere and the policy takes second place".
