If you seek care in primary care in Västernorrland, you can not expect to see the same doctor as last time.

The background to the medical crisis is a large national shortage of specialist doctors in general medicine.

The picture is confirmed by both the Swedish Medical Association and the Swedish Agency for Health and Care Analysis and according to the National Board of Health and Welfare's latest report, primary care in Region Västernorrland is the worst in the country.

- In primary care, people turn in and out to find new ways of working to meet the situation, we do not get relay staff either, says regional director Kurt Pettersson.

Jämtland best

Statistically, 43 general practitioners in Västernorrland are employed in health care per hundred thousand inhabitants, according to the latest figures.

The national average is 62 doctors and the best is the county neighbor Jämtland with 78 doctors per hundred thousand people.

Andree Wennstig works as a general practitioner in Ånge in Västernorrland and likes his job, but thinks it can be stressful.

Karin Björkman has the same opinion at the health center in Granlo in Sundsvall.

In the video above, they give their views on the general practitioners' situation.

Most stressed of all in care

General practitioners are the occupational group that experiences the most stress of all those who work in healthcare.

According to a survey from the Swedish Agency for Health and Care Analysis, 65 percent of the physicians surveyed in primary care think that the job is very or extremely stressful.

Do not understand

Despite the fact that the job is both stressful and sometimes lonely, neither Andree Wennstig nor Karin Björkman can understand what is the cause of the general practitioner shortage and why it is extra large in Västernorrland.

- I have a hard time understanding why.

I think it is fantastic to be able to follow patients, says Karin Björkman.
