"Wonderman is a mini-series that traces the romantic destiny of an extraordinary character. Throughout the seven episodes, Laurent Lafitte will slip into the skin of Bernard Tapie, through his successes and his failures", indicated Netflix in a press release.

“Filming will begin on March 7 and will take place between Paris and the south of France,” according to Netflix.

The first elements on "Wonderman" - a pun based on the struggling battery brand Wonder taken over by Bernard Tapie in the 1980s - had been revealed in recent months.

Netflix announced new cast names to AFP on Friday, including those of Fabrice Luchini, Joséphine Japy, Patrick D'Assumçao (recently seen in the series "Paris Police 1900") or Sarah Suco.

Presented as a free adaptation of real events, the series was created by Tristan Séguéla (director of the film "Docteur?" in 2019 with Michel Blanc) and Olivier Demangel.

Businessman, minister, actor, press boss and leader of Olympique de Marseille, Bernard Tapie, a time erected as a symbol of social success before being overtaken by legal troubles, died in early October of a cancer at the age of 78.

In June, in an interview with Nice-Matin and Var-Matin, he said he was opposed to the idea of a series on his life.

"I was against it. He's the son of a friend (Tristan Séguéla is the son of advertiser Jacques Séguéla, editor's note). Doing it without asking me for my agreement in principle is not very good. There is things that we don't do. That there are documentaries, that's another thing, but borrowing my name is a bit heavy", estimated Bernard Tapie.
