• Since January 1, 2022, a prefectural decree, on government order, has redefined the intervention methods for mountain rescue operations.

  • For years, the high mountain gendarmerie platoon, the mountain section of the CRS 06 and the specialized mountain unit of the SDIS of the Alpes-Maritimes cohabited.

  • From now on, firefighters are limited to the coast and the hinterland, except in special cases.

This is why several unions have attacked this departmental measure.

Friday, the administrative court of Nice rejected the interim relief introduced by the national union of the management of fire and rescue services (Sdis) and by the National Federation of firefighters of France.

The firefighters demanded the cancellation and suspension of the ORSEC departmental plan “Mountain rescue”.

According to them, the new measures exclude the specialized unit of Sdis from mountain rescue operations in the Alpes-Maritimes.

For the court, “the condition of urgency, which is mandatory for an interim suspension, is not met” and “the decree does not harm the interests defended by the applicants sufficiently seriously”.

It is for these reasons that the Autonomous Federation of Professional Firefighters (FASPP / PATS) preferred to attack with a motion on the merits.

Pending "judgment on the merits"

The president of the union, André Goretti, reacts to

20 Minutes

: “We knew that it was going to lead to this decision because the emergency services are still working but without the firefighters.

But we do not accept the decision.

Now the court will take the time to judge.

It may take a year and a half, but the rescue of people is up to the firefighters.

We have a team that is ready and competent.

The profession is ours to exercise, it is not the role of the State civil service.

Since January 1, 2022, the decree has redefined the methods of intervention to end competition between the high mountain gendarmerie platoon, the mountain section of the CRS 06 and the specialized mountain unit of the SDIS of the Alpes-Maritimes .

If the three structures had cohabited for years, the new rules now limit firefighters to the coast and the hinterland, except in special cases.
