A campaign to detect adulterated honey in Fujairah

Fujairah Municipality revealed that it has implemented an awareness and control campaign to survey the emirate's markets and its affiliated areas to ensure the products of bee honey and to ensure that its sellers adhere to the applicable specifications and measurements, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.

The municipality confirmed that the campaign came within the initiatives and strategic plans, in an effort to spread awareness of the regulations, technical regulations and applicable standard specifications, and to ensure the extent to which products conform to the standard specifications and technical regulations approved in the country.


The Food and Environment Laboratories Center of the municipality examines honey samples in accordance with the standard specification from the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, which refers to the proportion of ingredients in honey varieties, as the maximum moisture in honey from the nectar of various flowers is 20%, and the minimum amount of reducing sugars, such as fructose. And glucose, 60 grams per 100 grams, while the maximum amount of sucrose should be five grams per 100 grams.

Fujairah Municipality strives to maintain the safety of the community;

As one of its public and health priorities, it is keen to provide permanent control over food and foods circulating in the Emirate, and the role of the laboratory is to maintain food safety and water quality, in cooperation and coordination with the inspectors of the Public Health Department in Fujairah Municipality by conducting surveys on the markets of the Emirate of Fujairah and its affiliated areas Periodically, to monitor the products traded in accordance with the approved health requirements in order to preserve the safety of citizens and residents.

 The Food and Environment Laboratories Center plays an important and effective role in the continuity of work to reduce health risks arising from food and water through laboratory examinations and analysis in accordance with approved specifications and standards in order to ensure the quality and safety of food and water.

The municipality warned the markets for selling honey against mixing honey with any chemical stimulants, which will pose a danger to people, especially children, as they receive hormones that affect their growth and concentration, as well as exposing them to hyperactivity and other symptoms that negatively affect their health and normal growth.
