China News Service, Beijing, March 3 (Reporter Zhang Weiran) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on March 3.

Wang Wenbin: Ambassador Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, has made an explanation of China's voting position.

China's basic position on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear.

We have always advocated respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and peacefully resolving international disputes in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

The most important thing at the moment is to ease the situation on the ground as much as possible to avoid the conflict from escalating or even getting out of control.

Any action taken by the United Nations and relevant parties must focus on regional peace and stability and the general security of all parties, so as to play a positive role in reducing tensions and promoting diplomatic solutions.

Regrettably, the relevant draft resolutions voted by this emergency special session of the UN General Assembly have not been fully consulted within the scope of all member states beforehand, have not fully considered the historical latitude and complicated contradictions behind the current crisis, and have not emphasized the importance of the principle of indivisibility of security. , and did not highlight the urgency of promoting a political solution and increasing diplomatic efforts.

These are all inconsistent with China's consistent position and proposition, and we had to abstain from voting on the draft resolution.

We call on the international community to act in a responsible manner, push relevant parties to return to the track of political settlement as soon as possible, and seek a comprehensive solution to the Ukraine issue through dialogue and consultation.

China is willing to continue to play a constructive role in this regard.
