Doing sports in the city without running after your bus is possible.

And this, with simply active design.

Plaine Commune, which brings together nine cities of Seine-Saint-Denis, was chosen to be one of the six pilot territories by the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion and the Paris 2024 Games to host this experiment.

This can take the form of game modules, paint to encourage people to climb stairs or markings on the ground of athletics tracks.

The objective of the project is to encourage people to practice sport, revitalize cities and create meeting places for residents of all ages.

What to expect in Seine-Saint-Denis?

In the towns of Plaine Commune -Aubervilliers, Épinay-sur-Seine, L'Île-Saint-Denis, La Courneuve, Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, Stains and Villetaneuse -, a sports loop will be created “linking the sites of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to each other in the form of a route”, details Hervé Borie, vice-president of this territory.

The development of the quays of the Saint-Denis canal is also part of this project with the installation of an "active" traffic lane for bicycles and pedestrians.

For Hervé Borie, it is important that "the population reclaims public space", recalling that 22% of inhabitants aged 15 and over do not practice any sporting activity in Plaine Commune.

The long-term goal is to integrate sport into the daily lives of residents with a view to the 2024 Games and to extend the concept of active design to all territories labeled “Terre de Jeux 2024”.

For the moment, this project as well as its ambitions are followed by the five other pilot territories – Bourges, Châtellerault, Limoges, Saint-Dizier and Saint-Omer – and will be shared by 50 new municipalities in 2023 then 50 others the following year. .
