The President of the Republic took the floor on Wednesday evening to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.

A speech dedicated to international news, but which draws between the lines the contours of his future electoral campaign.

Emmanuel Macron will formalize his candidacy in a letter addressed to the French on Thursday evening.

Emmanuel Macron has laid the foundations, the foundations of what his message will be in the coming weeks.

In his televised speech on Wednesday evening, the President dwelt at length on the Ukrainian situation and on the reaction of Europeans to the danger of war.

He notably mentioned the exchanges held with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the question of energy.

But even before the formalization of his candidacy which will take place this Thursday evening in a letter to the French, he insinuated the main themes of his future campaign.

Predicting a conflict that is "destined to last", the Head of State first tried to pose as the protective father of the nation.

"I have and will have only one compass: to protect you," he said, for example.

To support his speech, Emmanuel Macron insisted on several values: democracy, freedom, while recalling his support for his Ukrainian counterpart, President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Values ​​highlighted throughout his speech and which echo his campaign themes.

On this line, the Head of State mentioned the defense of the standard of living of the French, but also the promotion of progress, investment and greater French and European sovereignty.

Europe, precisely, is a cardinal value for the future candidate.

As a reminder, France chairs the Council of the European Union until July 1, 2022 and overlaps with the end of Emmanuel Macron's five-year term.

During the debates, he intends to use this function to stand out from his opponents.

An official candidacy Thursday evening

Many European meetings have been set right in the middle of this upcoming campaign, starting next week, Thursday and Friday in Versailles.

Emmanuel Macron called a summit there for a new economic order for the European Union.

His candidacy, formalized this Thursday evening, will however be very sober in a letter addressed to the French and published in the regional daily press.

A new speech could be considered later, in the context of a television interview.

Some suggest that candidate Macron could work 8 p.m. at the very end of the weekend, Sunday evening.

This would take place before the final list of presidential candidates is made public on Monday noon by the Constitutional Council.
