The action of passersby was, it seems, decisive.

A dozen firefighters from Loire-Atlantique intervened rue de l'Echappée, on the island of Nantes, this Thursday around 9:30 a.m., to rescue a woman who had just been hit by a truck.

Seriously injured in the leg, the 90-year-old victim had in the meantime been taken care of by witnesses who proceeded to put on a tourniquet, which "saved his life", writes the departmental service of fire and rescue in a statement.

The nonagenarian was transported to the Nantes University Hospital.

The driver of the truck, a heavyweight from Nantes Métropole, was also hospitalized, in a state of shock.
