The Axios news website quoted US and Israeli officials as saying that, at the request of the administration of US President Joe Biden, the Israeli government pressured the UAE to vote yes on a United Nations General Assembly resolution condemning the "Russian invasion" of Ukraine, after Abu Dhabi abstained. About voting earlier on a draft resolution in this regard in the UN Security Council.

The website said that US officials were disappointed by the UAE's abstention in the Security Council last Friday on the draft resolution condemning the Russian military intervention in Ukraine and describing it as aggression, and Russia had vetoed the project submitted by the United States and Albania.

Axios added that US officials were concerned that the Emiratis would once again abstain from voting on the United Nations General Assembly resolution, which was supported by 141 countries out of 193 countries, and 5 countries opposed, including Russia, while 35 other countries abstained.

And the American news site quoted a senior Israeli official that before last Wednesday’s vote in the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid called his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed, and told him that Israel believed that a vote in the General Assembly to condemn Russia would be the right thing.
