Al Wasl Square, the beating heart of Expo 2020 Dubai, was decorated yesterday with folkloric treasures, during Romania's celebration of its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, which began with the playing of the national anthems of the UAE and Romania, and the raising of flags.

The celebrations included performances by the famous folk band "Cinderlol - Johnny Sibiului", which showed paintings from the rich Roman heritage, expressing the personality, vitality, wisdom and sense of humor of its people.

On the sidelines of the celebrations, workshops were organized to showcase the rich and diverse heritage of textiles, clothing and leather in Romania, and students from the University of Transylvania - Brasov, helped visitors make small souvenirs using wooden weaving.

For his part, Najeeb Al-Ali, Executive Director of the Office of the Commissioner-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: "Romania's participation under the slogan (New Nature) highlights the need to strengthen the relationship between people and nature, in light of the accelerating pace of industrial growth;

It also highlights opportunities in tourism, sustainable technology and agriculture.”

He added: “We are proud of our relations with Romania, which have been consolidated over the years and have grown remarkably at all levels, and we are keen to expand our cooperation framework in various fields of common interest, including foreign direct investment, tourism, and enabling small and medium-sized companies to grow in the markets of the region and the world from through innovation.

For his part, Romanian Ambassador to the UAE, Adrian Michlaro, stressed that "(Expo Dubai) represents a wonderful opportunity to interact with millions of people, highlighting our traditions, culture and beautiful landscapes, as well as our creativity and innovations aimed at improving people's lives and contributing to a better society." He added, “The exhibition is an opportunity to further develop Romanian-Emirati relations.

I would like to confirm our country’s commitment to continue strengthening and diversifying our bilateral cooperation to include various areas of mutual interest.”

And Michlaro continued: “Our main motto is (the new nature), because Romania believes that the biggest challenge facing humanity today is its relationship with nature;

Therefore, we find that the slogan is a necessary response to finding a new balance in our attempt to secure a future for humanity, by focusing on ways to reduce damage to the environment, reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, recycle production waste and integrate the principles of a circular economy.”

The Romania Pavilion is located in the Sustainability District and bears the theme "New Nature", exploring the delicate balance between nature and technology.

With Romania home to 2,000 springs containing about 60% of Europe's mineral water reserves, the pavilion allows visitors to view the country's purest water, as well as sample and compare 10 types of mineral-rich water, including gold and silver.

Amid waves of applause and mass interaction, the Romanian Folk Band presented its performances on the Dubai Millennium Theater as part of its country's celebrations of its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The troupe displayed paintings from the Roman heritage, designed by the troupe's manager, Silvia Macrea, and embodied in their entirety the diverse traditions of this country in weddings and occasions.

The band members also performed solo and group performances with rhythms in harmony with the movements of the hands and feet, amid great interaction and continuous applause from the audience.

The members of the band appeared in traditional and popular costumes in Romania, and succeeded in presenting a group of masterpieces of symphonic music, such as the Romanian Rhapsody of George Enescu.
