For American President Joe Biden, the conflict with Russia is a struggle of freedom and democracy against tyranny.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is a dictator.

In his first State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, Biden assured that he “miscalculated” when he gave the order to invade Ukraine.

The Russian armed forces found a "wall of resistance" supported by the will of the Ukrainian people.

Once the conflict is over, Russia will be weaker than before and the rest of the world stronger.

Biden's staff had been working on the speech for months.

It should highlight the domestic political achievements of the Democrats, promote more unity - and for the parts of the Biden agenda that had recently failed due to resistance from his own Senate faction.

But the Russian invasion of Ukraine threw a spanner in the works.

Biden used the first twelve minutes of his hour-long speech to talk about the war in Ukraine.

After all, he had most of the Congress behind him by this point.

Whenever solidarity with Ukraine was discussed, Republicans and Democrats applauded.

Equipment and money for Kyiv

So Biden commended the Ukrainian people for their will to resist and assured Ukraine that America was with them.

Washington will not stop sending aid, both equipment and money.

However, he also reiterated that he would not send any American troops into the country to directly intervene in the fighting.

The reinforcement of American troops in Eastern Europe serves to show Putin that NATO is determined to defend "every inch" of its territory.

Biden stressed that the democratic world is united against Putin, that the Russian president is more isolated than ever.

The sanctions that America, along with its allies, enacted prevented Putin from accessing his "war chest."

Biden also announced that the United States, like the EU, Great Britain and Switzerland before it, will close its airspace to all Russian aircraft.

Biden addressed the Russian oligarchs who “created this corrupt regime” directly, blaring a “Done!”: “No more!” More action would be taken against Russia and Putin.

"He has no idea what's coming," Biden said.

The sentence had not been in the speech manuscript.

"Let's make it in America"

But that part, foreign policy, isn't what interests most Americans.

Above all, they want to know what Biden intends to do about inflation, which is rising at its fastest rate in forty years.

So what does he have to say about ever-increasing prices for energy, gas, and the standard of living.

Before the congressional elections in November, they are more interested in how Biden intends to help them - not the Ukrainians.

And Biden went into it.

These are "tough times" in America, he said.

The corona pandemic and high prices would keep Americans busy.

But he's already got it fixed.

Last March's $1.9 trillion stimulus package will benefit working people, he said.

The $1 trillion infrastructure package will transform America.

But he also has a plan on how he wants to continue to help the Americans, Biden promised.

It's about cutting costs, not wages.

In addition, everything that is built with the funds from the infrastructure package should be manufactured in America: "Let's make it in America," he said.

He asked lawmakers and senators to pass an investment program that will create jobs in America and help meet the challenge posed by China.

Biden no longer named the “Build Back Better” program that failed in the Senate.

But he advertised some of its components.

Childcare costs would have to go down, and the minimum wage would have to be raised to $15.
