The UAE digital government has confirmed that non-Emirati holders of lost or stolen passports, whose passports hold residency visas in the UAE, need a new entry permit, issued by embassies and consulates, to enable them to return to the country.

She explained that if a resident of the UAE was on a visit to his country, and he lost his passport there, he must follow the steps required in his country to report the loss of the passport, and apply for the issuance of a new passport.

In the event that he is visiting a country, he must contact the embassy of his country in that country to find out what he needs to report the loss of the passport, and apply for the issuance of another passport.

She indicated that, according to the information on the website of the UAE embassy in London, travelers who hold a residence visa from the UAE, and who lost their passports while abroad, must apply for an entry permit to be able to return to the UAE.

The Consular Affairs Section issues entry permits to non-Emiratis holders of lost or stolen passports, whose passports hold residency visas in the UAE, to enable them to return to the country.

The documents required for the issuance of the entry permit include: filling out the application form signed by the person concerned, a copy of the old passport, a copy of the current passport, a personal photo the size of a passport photo, a copy of the residence visa in the UAE, and a copy of the Emirates ID card for the resident, And a letter sent from the sponsor, confirming the data of the lost passport, the validity of his residence status in the UAE, and the submission of a report of theft or loss.

She stated that if a person is a resident of the UAE, and loses his passport inside the country, he must submit an application to issue a new passport, and install the residence visa on him again.

The digital government reviewed a set of instructions in the event of a lost passport, which is to inform the nearest police station of the place where the passport was lost, and to fill out a special form to report lost passports.

If the lost passport belongs to a minor, the guardian (sponsor) must report the loss of the passport at the police station, and if the lost passport is for a person working under the sponsorship of a company in the country, he must submit a letter to the police department in the emirate where he resides, Reporting the loss of the passport, and the letter must be printed on a paper bearing the company's letterhead (its name and address), and the police must also be provided with a copy of the trade license and the establishment card of the company.

If the lost passport is for a person under the sponsorship of his family, he must submit a letter about the loss of the passport, signed by the sponsor, and attached to a copy of the sponsor's passport.

She stated that for residents of Dubai, the procedures for losing a passport are linked to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and Dubai Courts.

And she added that after receiving the initial police report, the missing passport must review the relevant court in the emirate where his visa is located, the Public Prosecution, and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs that issued his previous visa, to document the report in their records.

After completing these authentications, the lost passport must return again to the police station through which the report was made, receive an official certificate of the loss of the passport, then visit his country's embassy or consulate in the UAE, and apply for the issuance of a new passport.

After issuing the new passport, it is possible to return to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and request that the residence visa be fixed on the passport.

And she added that the new residence visa bears the validity of the old visa, if it is valid, but if it is expired, then it will issue a new residence visa with a new validity date, according to the procedures in force.
