The spread of the bacterium was discovered during a routine check-up according to the region and affects a small number of children who were cared for in the neonatal ward at the pediatric and adolescent medicine clinic at Vrinnevis Hospital.

The clinic concerned and Infection Control and Care Hygiene in the Östergötland Region are taking the outbreak seriously and have taken measures to stop the spread.

"Activated our routines"

- We have activated our routines to effectively and collectively manage and limit the spread of bacteria with resistance problems, says Erik Stenkvist, chief physician at Vrinnevis Hospital in a press release.

According to the Östergötland Region, the patients, "with a few exceptions", have not had any disease symptoms linked to being carriers of the bacterium.

A special outbreak group has been set up to deal with the incident.
