The decision on a new hospital in Växjö was made by a broad majority.

But not without discussion, which at times, according to SVT's reporter Olof Peterson who was present, was quite hot.

- Make it an election issue.

Let the voters have influence over this enormous decision, Eva-Britt Svensson (V) suggested.

Yngve Filipsson from the Liberals demanded a re-referral and said in the debate that he wanted to see a decision that he could stand for.

Ted Strand (SD) also wanted, as a departure from his party, to request a re-referral to the first quarter of 2023.

- This decision does not have the entire primary care behind it, he said, referring to the criticism that has come from doctors before.

But when the regional council was finally ready to make a decision, a large majority supported the proposal to build a new hospital in Räppe in Växjö.

Carl-Olof Bengtssons (S) said that larger operating theaters are needed.

And supported the proposal to build a new emergency hospital in Räppe.

Eva Johnsson from (KD) did the same

- It's about a lot of money that we would lose if we could not offer, partly patient-safe care and partly an attractive workplace, said Eva Johnsson (KD)
