A man tries to kidnap two children near a school in Menton

On Tuesday, a 25-year-old man attempted to kidnap two children, aged 10 and 11, near their primary school in Menton as they were returning home for lunch.

The two schoolchildren managed to struggle and escape him and directly informed their director who immediately contacted the police.

He does not explain his intentions

Arrested the same day while he was still prowling around the school, this individual was placed in pre-trial detention

, Xavier Bonhomme, public prosecutor of Nice, told

"He recognizes the facts, without explaining his intentions," said commissioner Abdel Bouzelmat, head of the public security district of Menton, interviewed by the local daily.

The man, originally from the Menton hinterland, was already under judicial supervision for a history of possession of child pornography images and was prohibited from coming into contact with children.

The Nice prosecutor's office then requested the opening of a judicial investigation.
