Lavrov accuses the West of "losing control of itself"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the European Union countries of imposing "unlawful" sanctions on his country over its attack on Ukraine.

In his speech, broadcast via video technology, during a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Committee in Geneva, Lavrov said that he had hoped to attend the meeting in person, but the flight ban imposed on Russian companies prevented him from doing so.

Lavrov considered that the European Union countries imposed sanctions on his country "to evade direct and honest dialogue and face to face they are afraid of," accusing the West of "losing control of itself."

Several countries' delegations boycotted Lavrov's speech, as their members left the hall during its broadcast, in solidarity with Ukraine.

The delegations of several countries boycotted another speech by Lavrov, broadcast via video technology, during the meeting of the Organization for the Non-Proliferation of Arms, which was also held today at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
