The pace of military confrontations between the Russian and Ukrainian armies intensified in several cities, most notably the capital, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson, which Russian forces announced their entry, entering the war on its seventh day amid international fears of an approaching urban war.

While a new round of negotiations is expected on Wednesday between Moscow and Kiev on the Belarusian-Polish border, US President Joe Biden is expected to deliver his first speech on the State of the Union since taking office, and is expected to be dominated by Russia's war on Ukraine.

Amid all this, sanctions against Moscow for its attack on its western neighbor are increasing, with calls for a halt to the attack in the United Nations General Assembly in its meeting for the second day.
