　　Wang Yi said that China pays close attention to the changes in the situation in Ukraine and supports all efforts to ease the situation and resolve it politically.

Regarding European security issues, the legitimate concerns of all countries should be taken seriously.

Under the circumstance of five consecutive rounds of eastward expansion of NATO, Russia's legitimate security demands should be properly addressed.

　　Wang Yi said that the Cold War has long since ended, and NATO needs to reconsider its own position and responsibilities, and the Cold War mentality based on group confrontation should be completely abandoned.

China supports NATO, the EU and Russia to resume dialogue and seek to build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security mechanism to achieve lasting peace and stability on the European continent.

　　Wang Yi said that China does not support the use of sanctions to solve problems, and is even more opposed to unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law.

Practice has long proven that sanctions will not only fail to solve problems, but will also create new problems, which will not only result in a "lose-lose" or "lose-lose" situation in the economy, but will also interfere with the process of political settlement.

　　Wang Yi said that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China has always fulfilled its responsibility of maintaining international peace and security.

We believe that the Council, if acted, should contribute to a political solution to the current crisis, rather than instigate new confrontations.

In view of this, when the Security Council was discussing the resolution on the Ukraine issue, China prevented the use of expressions containing authorized use of force and sanctions.
