Good evening,

cold, clear and sunny: The weather was definitely fantastically beautiful at the weekend and on Monday.

Much else seems ambivalent these days, concern about the general political climate dominates private conversations and is probably at least touched upon in most business ones.

Which companies in the region are active in the Ukraine and how they assess the situation of their employees there, how Shrove Monday was in Mainz and what developments there are on the Frankfurt hotel market: the overview at the end of the day.

New hotel brand

: some are moving out, others are taking over.

The transition will be almost seamless.

The Arab hotel chain Jumeirah, which opened its first hotel in Germany in Frankfurt in 2011, is giving up its location on the Main.

As early as April 1, the hotel in a silver high-rise tower in the so-called Palais Quartier will become a “JW Marriott”.

The asset manager DWS, which holds the hotel property for several institutional funds, and Jumeirah, based in Dubai, have terminated the lease agreement with one another. Nothing was disclosed about the reasons.

Munich-based MHP Hotel AG, an independent hotel operator, leases the tower from DWS and has signed a franchise agreement with Marriott.

"JW Marriott" is a luxury brand of the American hotel company, which is not yet represented in Germany.

The house is to be extensively renovated and redesigned during ongoing operations.

Among other things, the ground floor, where there is currently access via the My Zeil shopping center, is to be revised and the ballroom divided into smaller units.

The Jumeirah hotel chain belongs to the ruling family in Dubai, and its portfolio includes some of the most famous luxury hotels in the world, such as the Burj al Arab in Dubai.

As to the reasons for the withdrawal from Frankfurt, Jumeirah only announced on Monday that the group and the owners of the property had come to an agreement and were working together “on a smooth transfer for all employees and business partners”.

Could You Have Partyed in the Streets, Despite It All?

In Mainz, the carnival stronghold par excellence in the region, Shrove Monday is as good as canceled.

Wrongly so, says FAZ correspondent Markus Schug, pointing to places like Cologne, where carnival dignitaries and local politicians managed to deal appropriately with the dramatic events of the day.

Daniel Meuren, like Markus Schug a friend of the carnival, sees it similarly.

An opportunity to show solidarity was missed, he comments in the Rhein-Main-Zeitung.
