Emmanuel Macron must apply for the presidential election this week, while the deadline is set for Friday.

A declaration made more difficult because of the mobilization of the outgoing president on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

It should be done in a very solemn way, at the end of the week.

TO ANALYSE

There is only one week left for Emmanuel Macron to officially declare his candidacy for the presidential election.

A declaration delayed by the health crisis first, and now by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The deadline is set for Friday by the Constitutional Council, while the Head of State already has the 500 sponsorships required, and therefore only has to confirm his candidacy.

But this week promises to be busy for the president.

Everything will start with the defense and national security council devoted to the situation in Ukraine, which is due to start this Monday at 11 a.m.

The war raging in the east of the country is logically upsetting the president's agenda, and therefore that of the future candidate.

The declaration of candidacy will be very solemn

Until now, there was talk of the Head of State making a trip to the region between Wednesday and Friday, as Europe 1 revealed, before holding a first meeting in Marseille on March 5.

It was during this trip to the region that he should have declared his presidential candidacy.

But it would no longer be the specifically privileged form.

"We take into account the global context which is changing from hour to hour", explains a close adviser to the president to Europe 1.

Nothing is therefore definitively fixed concerning the way in which Emmanuel Macron will declare himself.

However, one certainty animates the entourage of the outgoing president: the candidacy of the tenant of the Elysée for his re-election will be very solemn, with a certain gravity.

As if this week was not the one where Emmanuel Macron was going to put on the candidate's costume, but rather keep that of warlord.
