China News Agency, Brussels, February 28 (Reporter De Yongjian) The European Union announced on February 28 an additional emergency humanitarian aid of 90 million euros to Ukraine to help Ukrainian citizens who stay in the country and seek refuge in neighboring countries.

According to the announcement issued by the European Commission on the same day, the European Union will launch relevant assistance projects to provide Ukraine with food, drinking water, emergency shelter, medical supplies and other materials, mainly for Ukrainian citizens in Ukraine and refugees in Moldova.

The announcement shows that at least 20 EU member states are currently providing assistance to Ukraine through the EU's civil defense mechanism, including a large amount of medical supplies and daily necessities; the first batch of aid has arrived in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, from Slovenia on the 27th.

France, Austria, the Netherlands and other countries have also provided emergency assistance to Moldova, such as emergency shelter, medical supplies, etc., to help Moldova resettle the influx of Ukrainian citizens.

The announcement quoted the European Commission's member responsible for crisis management, Lenarcic, as saying that the current situation may cause the displacement of millions of people in Ukraine, and the humanitarian needs in Ukraine and neighboring countries have risen sharply. For this reason, the EU will fully support Ukraine.

The United Nations refugee agency previously stated that since Russia launched a special military operation in eastern Ukraine on the 24th, it is estimated that 150,000 Ukrainians have taken refuge in neighboring countries, about half of them went to Poland, and the rest went to Moldova, Hungary, Romania and other countries.
