Hear the landowners about how they reason about the test drilling - in the clip
It was at the end of last year that Viad Royalties applied for test drilling in and around Askejö, an area that is almost 5,000 hectares in size, northwest of Bengtsfors.
After three months, Bergstaten gave the thumbs up - the company gets permission to test drill.
But the decision has not landed in good soil with the landowners in the area.
Several have already appealed the decision and more are about to be sent in.
- There is no one who is positive about this, says one of the landowners Göte Nilsson.
Bargains in the 70s
According to the company Viad Royalities, it is test drilling that was carried out in the 1970s that made it possible to open the eyes to the area.
Then there will be significant significant levels of, among other things, platinum and palladium.
The company also believes that the area is geologically comparable to the Romsås deposit, which is located in Norway.
- It is also about nickel that is used in battery production, so it is part of the green transition to find minerals locally, says Johannes Holzäpfel.
Municipalities say no
But it is not only landowners who stand on the sidelines, the municipalities of Bengtsfors and Dals-ed also do not want to see any drilling.
Something that surprises Viad Roaylities.
- It is strange that municipalities are not positive about something that can provide jobs in the future.
Does the landowners' attitude matter?
- Yes, it is not possible to have a business that no one wants.
But there is a lack of knowledge about what we want to do, so I plan to go to meet the politicians during the year, says Holzäpfel.
