Nine people were sentenced to prison, a maximum of eight months.

A total of 36 people were prosecuted for what happened in central Gothenburg one day in June 2020, shortly after a demonstration in support of Black Lives Matter.

The Gothenburg District Court has now handed down its verdict against all but two of the accused.

- I am very happy that the police's work has been so successful, and that we have had the absolute majority convicted, says chamber prosecutor Elisabeth Trouvé to Göteborgs-Posten.

A man in his 30s was sentenced to eight months in prison for violent rioting, two counts of assault, violence against an official and attempted violence against an official.

He must also pay approximately SEK 6,000 in damages to a police officer.

Erik Nord, police area chief in Greater Gothenburg, describes the incident as a basically peaceful demonstration "hijacked" by people who were just looking to quarrel, mainly with the police.

Several of the judges have appealed to the Court of Appeal.
