Sri Lanka's pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai revealed, for the first time, the largest selection of rare sapphire masterpieces from the country, known for its ancient past in the trade in precious stones and jewelry, which made some describe it as the "sapphire capital of the world".

The "Sapphire Day" exhibition includes treasures of precious stones, valued at more than $100 million, and all weighing more than 1,000 carats, including a rare golden yellow sapphire, weighing more than 200 carats, with a value exceeding four and a half million dollars, to be one. One of the world's rarest and most precious golden yellow sapphires.

The exhibition is organized in the Sri Lanka pavilion, with the participation of 11 prominent Sri Lankan businessmen in the field of gemstones and jewellery. During the "Sapphire Day", they present 21 gem stones, and the collection includes some rare pieces of the most famous "blue sapphire" stones in the country.

On the significance of the event, Board Member of the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewelery Association Armil Samoun said: “Today we were able to bring part of the most famous sapphire masterpieces in Sri Lanka, which are displayed by leading brands around the world, to highlight them in front of the visitors of the largest international event ever ( Expo 2020 Dubai).

In view of the global demand for Sri Lankan sapphire (blue sapphire), the main objective of the exhibition is to promote tourism in conjunction with precious stones, according to Samoun.

The video reviews the tourist attractions and cultural features of Sri Lanka to encourage those interested in visiting that island, inviting them to buy a gem as a souvenir when leaving the country.

About the importance of sapphire to Sri Lanka, Samoun added: “This precious gemstone has been mined in our country for thousands of years, which has made Ceylon sapphire famous all over the world, and it comes in all colors of the rainbow, such as blue, which is the most famous, yellow, pink, purple, green, and other colors miscellaneous".
