For the first time since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, a curfew was introduced in Kiev from 5 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday, in a capital, deserted by its inhabitants.

The city's mayor, Vitaly Klitchko, said anyone on the streets during that time "will be considered members of enemy saboteur groups."

Only the Ukrainian soldiers and the civilians organized in militias occupy the empty streets of Kiev where the detonations resound from all sides.

Ukrainian troops have been deployed to strategic positions in the capital.

In the streets of the city, roadblocks were improvised and the authorities called on the population to arm themselves and prepare molotov cocktails.
