Russia and Ukraine have agreed to hold talks on the Belarusian border, TASS and AFP news agency reported on the 27th (local time).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said they had agreed to meet without conditions with the Russian side on the Belarusian border.

Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky also said, "Around 3 pm (9 pm Korean time) that day, the Ukrainian side confirmed the meeting in Gomel, Belarus."

President Zelensky mentioned the meeting point was on the border near the Pripyat River, which runs through southern Belarus, but did not name the city.

TAS news agency, citing a source, reported that the specific meeting location will not be disclosed.

"It is under the responsibility of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko," President Zelensky said during the talks.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleva said the meeting was "going to hear what Russia wants to say".

At a press conference on the same day, he said, "Russia said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has strengthened vigilance against nuclear weapons units in order to pressure us in negotiations."

Previously, Russia and Ukraine had a conflict over the place of negotiations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that a Russian delegation has arrived in Gomel, southeastern Belarus, for negotiations with Ukraine and is ready to start negotiations.

However, the Ukrainian side rejected Russia's offer on the grounds that the negotiating site was not neutral.

Local media also reported that President Zelensky was seeking peace negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Belarus, which borders Ukraine to the north, is very close to Russia.

Russia used these forces to invade Ukraine after stationing troops in the border region under the pretext of joint exercises in Belarus.

For this reason, President Zelensky refused, saying, "I would be happy to negotiate a peace with Russia, but not Belarus for now. Belarus was a bridgehead for aggression."

Foreign media reported that Zelensky decided to meet with Russia in Belarus after a phone call with President Lukashenko.

Russia had proposed talks the day before, but blamed Ukraine for the failure of the talks, saying, "Ukraine refused to negotiate, so President Vladimir Putin ordered the resumption of the military advance on the 26th, which was temporarily suspended on the 25th."

The Ukrainian government blamed Russia, saying that the conditions raised by the Russian side were unacceptable and that the meeting was held in Minsk, Belarus.
