Mr. Nakayama is 54 years old.


After serving as a member of the Ishigaki City Council, he was elected for the first time in the 2010 mayoral election, and has served as the mayor for the third term and 12 years.



In the election campaign, Mr. Nakayama said that the mayor would propose a referendum to ask the pros and cons of the deployment of the Ground Self-Defense Force in the city scheduled by the end of March next year. The mayor's proposal showed an idea that he would not do.
