“In response to the war in Ukraine, we are suspending the ability for Russian state-funded media to monetize their activities on our platforms,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement.
"We are actively monitoring new developments and will take further action as necessary," he added.
A few hours earlier, YouTube had already announced that it would prevent certain Russian channels from generating money through videos broadcast on its platform.
"In light of the exceptional circumstances in Ukraine, we are taking a number of actions," a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement.
"Our teams have begun suspending the ability of certain channels to generate revenue on YouTube, including RT's channels globally," the spokesperson said, referring to the news outlet funded by UNICEF. Russian state.
On YouTube, channels make money from ads that appear when users watch their videos.
On Friday, Facebook had already announced that it was banning Russian state media from serving ads and monetizing their activity on its platform.
