China News Agency, Hangzhou, February 27 (Huang Lingyi) Since the beginning of the new year, cities along the Grand Canal in China are accelerating the construction of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park.

In 2019, the Chinese government issued the "Construction Plan for the Great Wall, the Grand Canal and the Long March National Cultural Park".

The 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Outline of Vision 2035 announced last year clearly stated that the construction of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park is a key task during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.

Recently, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, located at the southern end of the Grand Canal, issued the "Hangzhou Grand Canal Cultural Protection, Inheritance and Utilization and National Cultural Park Construction Plan", specifying that the construction scope is 7 urban areas along the city's Grand Canal; the construction period is 2022-2025 Among them, the basic completion stage will be by the end of 2023; the optimization development stage will be by the end of 2025.

The city has made it clear that it will focus on the construction of four types of functional areas: management, control and protection, theme display, cultural and tourism integration, and traditional utilization.

For example, in the construction of the cultural and tourism integration zone, Hangzhou proposed to create a number of classic cultural tourism routes on the canal, and to create inter-provincial inland river cruise lines such as Hangzhou-Suzhou and Hangzhou-Wuxi.

Hangzhou also proposed to focus on building ten iconic projects, including the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Museum, the Grand Canal Future Art Science and Technology Center, the Grand Canal Hangzhou Iron and Steel Industrial Site Comprehensive Protection Project, the Canal Digital Twin Platform, and the Grand Canal Asian Games Park.

In Beijing, which is the northern head of the Grand Canal, the city government's work report stated that this year, Beijing will realize the tourism navigation of the Beijing-Hebei section of the Grand Canal.

At the same time, it will coordinate the construction of the "three cultural belts", implement the construction and protection plans for the Great Wall and the Grand Canal National Cultural Park, and promote the Liuli River and Luxian Ancient City Archaeological Site Park and other projects.

Yangzhou, Jiangsu is the lead city for the application of the Grand Canal to the World Heritage List.

In June 2021, Yangzhou China Grand Canal Museum will be completed and opened, and the supporting Grand Canal Intangible Heritage Cultural Park project is also progressing in an orderly manner.

The work report of the city government proposes that this year Yangzhou will promote the construction of the three-bay core exhibition park of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park, carefully create "eight scenic spots" such as Wantou, Yangzijin, and Guazhou, and build the archaeological site park of Emperor Yangdi's tomb.

Regarding plans to open the Grand Canal cruise line and tourism navigation in various places, Zhu Bingren, one of the "Three Canal Olds" and honorary chairman of the Grand Canal Special Committee of the Chinese Cultural Relics Society, pointed out in an interview with a reporter from China News Agency that "transportation" is the soul of the Grand Canal , the meaning of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park is very profound, which includes fireworks - so that the material and spiritual enjoyment of people's lives can be closely integrated with the Grand Canal.
