Preschool and preschool class

Within the Finnish administrative area, children have the right to preschool in whole or in part in Finnish.

This does not apply to other municipalities, but the preschool must still contribute to the development of Finnish.

In preschool class, children do not automatically have the right to Finnish language instruction, but even there the development of Finnish should be promoted.

Tuition in Finnish can be offered on a voluntary basis.

Primary School

Compulsory school students have the right to Finnish instruction in schools with access to suitable teachers, even if the students are few.

Finnish teaching is often given in the subject of mother tongue.

You are not entitled to a guaranteed teaching time in Finnish as a mother tongue.

Teaching is often conducted outside the regular school day.

Finnish must also be offered in the language choice, but according to the Swedish Schools Inspectorate's report, it happens that students are not informed about the possibility.

High School

In upper secondary school, mother tongue instruction is offered if the student has a good knowledge of Finnish.

Finnish can also be read as a modern language.
