On the third day of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, clashes take place in the streets of the capital Kiev.

On Saturday morning, according to the Ukrainian state service, a large residential building was heavily hit by a missile, without knowing yet whether there were any casualties.

The Ukrainian army and Russian forces clash in Kiev this Saturday morning for control of the capital of Ukraine, two days after the launch of an invasion of the country ordered by Vladimir Putin.

Fighting took place on Victory Avenue, one of the main arteries of the Ukrainian capital, a few hours after a dramatic call for mobilization launched by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

A large residential building in Kiev was heavily hit by a missile, the state service for emergency situations said on Saturday, which could not give information on possible victims in the immediate future.

The missile hit the building between the 18th and 21st floors, the Ukrainian service said, adding that an evacuation was "in progress".

Russia announced shortly before that it had fired cruise missiles on the third day of its invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine's allies send weapons, says Zelensky

The Ukrainian president said on Saturday that his Western partners would deliver new weapons to Ukraine, and called on the Ukrainians to defend Kiev, plagued by heavy fighting with Russian forces.

"A new day has begun on the diplomatic front, with a conversation with @EmmanuelMacron. Our partners' weapons and equipment are on their way to Ukraine. The anti-war coalition is working," Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Twitter.
