Around 500 people gathered on Saturday on Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm to protest against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Several of the speakers called for stricter sanctions against Russia and for securing military airspace over Ukraine.

Many on the spot had relatives in Ukraine and the atmosphere was emotional.

- Every morning when I wake up I check the phone to see if my loved ones are still alive, says Sofia Kolupov who has family and friends who are in Kiev.

Show solidarity

"Slava Ukraini, heroiam slava!"

- "Glory to Ukraine, glory to the heroes!"

the slogans sounded from the crowd in the square.

The anger against the Russian regime and Putin was clear.

The Russian citizen Margareta Chudnovskaya was also present to show her support for the neighboring country.

- People in Russia can not go out and protest against the war.

I will not be arrested here but I would be if I went out on the streets in Russia, she says.

Hiding underground

In recent days, there have been regular reports of aircraft alarms and attacks in several parts of Ukraine.

Many of the residents of the capital Kiev have sought protection in the underground metro system.

Others hide in shelters.

Liudmyla Korshun has relatives on site who she tries to keep in touch with.

- They can not answer because they need to stay hidden, otherwise it will be too dangerous, she says.

On Saturday, there have also been protests in Visby and Linköping.
