• Direct Ukraine-Russia War

A year ago, NATO was a dying organization.

Today, thanks to the armed aggression of Vladimir Putin, not only has it come together again around a common defense purpose that seemed forgotten, but all its partners are delighted to participate with the best war material in their arsenals.

The military parade of the Russian president in Ukraine has also caused the armoring of the entire Eastern flank of the Alliance, which already accumulates the elite troops of its members, state-of-the-art fighters to defend their skies and armored vehicles to block the way to any Russian attempt to storm the old borders.

Never in its history had the organization, invigorated by the Kremlin attack, deployed so much firepower on these lines.

The fear is palpable

.

The population of the area knows where the shelters are and has specific orders to change the road signs to confuse the enemy.

There are long queues at gas stations and the authorities have banned filling more than 30 liters of fuel, while many service stations have closed.

Today it is difficult to get used to the idea that we are not facing the invasion of Eastern Poland by the USSR in 1939, when the country was divided up with the Nazi butchers, but rather the Europe of 2022, attacked by the same imperialist dreams of that time.

Spain, as a member of the Alliance, already has more than 800 soldiers on the ground.

They range from combat pilots of the four Eurofighters of the 14th Wing of Albacete in Bulgaria, the drivers of the six Leopard tanks deployed on the Russian border with Latvia, or the sailors of the frigates that monitor the Eastern Mediterranean.

If a country invokes article 4 and asks for help to defend its territory, all of them must act.

The shelters and sports halls in this region are ready to shelter the hundreds of thousands of refugees,

perhaps a million as UNHCR predicts

, who are trying to flee the country in the coming hours.

The head of the Polish Prime Minister's cabinet, Michal Dworczyk, confirmed yesterday that

the border barrier will remain open "for all Ukrainians without the need for documentation, Covid certificate or insurance

. Pets are also welcome."

In the case of the Polish Executive, it estimates the arrival of people from the other side of the border in a range between one million and four million, figures that would exceed the wave of refugees due to the Syrian conflict in 2015 and 2016.

On the other side of the border, from the road that goes from Kiev and through Lviv, there are kilometric jams of cars with families in panic.

It is the second major wave of refugees bound for the EU caused by Vladimir Putin's planes since his indiscriminate bombing of Syrian cities in 2015 and 2016.

Poland and the Baltic States are now the regions that most feel the encouragement of the Russian president, who has intentionally named them in the

Orwellian

revisionist speeches of these days.

Any border incident, which a few months ago could be resolved with a diplomatic apology, today can escalate to limits not imagined a few weeks ago.

These days the Government of Warsaw has put the entire Polish border on alert and has moved its best troops there.

Awac aircraft and other aerial surveillance and electronic warfare spy devices fly relentlessly over our heads, eyes with powerful radar that monitor any suspicious activity.

Before one lands, another is already in the air to take over.

Despite being military aircraft, they have their position signal on and appear on any air tracking website

.

"It is so that the Russians know that we are watching them day and night,"

Alliance sources say.

The transfer of military vehicles and border police is continuous since the ruse of the Belarusian Lukashenko to use refugees from the Middle East as ammunition on the dividing line.

Helicopters and fighter jets patrol the area to complete a deployment worthy of this new Cold War.

The United States has deployed in Poland the 82nd Airborne Division, famous for its role during the Normandy landings in 1944, and several F35 fighters are on the way, the most powerful fighter in the world, invisible to radar.

Another 1,000 US military personnel have begun to deploy to Costanza, Romania

.

More than 8,500 wait on American soil, on alert, to be shipped to Eastern Europe.

France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany have announced that they will do the same in the coming days to try to make the dividing line with Russia, Belarus and a still hypothetical occupied Ukraine truly an insurmountable wall.

"If Russia wants fewer troops near its borders, it has achieved the opposite

," says NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The organization has not forgotten to monitor the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, the base of the Baltic fleet and a true Chinese in the EU's shoes.

All ships are being monitored by planes and satellites.

The distance from that fortress surrounded by mined dunes to the Kremlin's allied Belarus is 96 kilometers belonging to Poland and Lithuania.

It is called the Suwalki corridor and it is a strait of land that, if taken by the Russian side, would drown the Baltic countries by road and separate them from the rest of the NATO and European Union partners.

And there are already Russian troops on both sides.
