The three departments regulate the prevention and control of myopia on campus: myopia cannot be cured under the existing medical technology, what about the popular "OK mirror"?

CCTV Beijing, February 25th, according to the Voice of China's "News Hyperlink" report, the General Office of the Ministry of Education, the General Office of the National Health Commission, and the General Office of the State Administration of Market Supervision recently issued "On Further Regulating Campus Vision". "Notice on Services Related to Testing and Myopia Prevention and Control" (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice"), proposing to crack down on false and illegal marketing and publicity.

The "Notice" makes it clear that under the current medical technology conditions, myopia cannot be cured, and local market supervision departments should strictly investigate and punish the use of "rehabilitation", "recovery", "reduction of degree", "myopia cure", "myopia nemesis" and "degree repair" according to law. ” and other misleading representations of marketing and promotion of myopia prevention and control products for children and adolescents.

Recently, some media reported that the ophthalmology clinic of many hospitals has become a "check-in place" for students and parents when the new semester starts.

In addition to optometry, the department for fitting orthokeratology lenses, also known as "OK lenses", is also hard to find.

Orthokeratology lenses are generally priced at tens of thousands of yuan and need to be replaced every one to one and a half years. In daily use, care solutions are also required.

The price is not low, and there are a lot of requirements in use, but none of these can stop the hearts that don't want to wear myopia glasses anymore.

However, experts also said that the "OK mirror" is not "all OK" for all myopic teenagers.

What kind of situation is suitable for using orthokeratology lens?

Can it treat myopia?

What should children and adolescents pay attention to to prevent myopia?

Preventing deepens rather than curing myopia

When I saw the words "Keratoplasty", my eyes seemed to be tense unconsciously.

To achieve the purpose of "shaping", it is necessary to put a certain amount of pressure on the cornea and use an orthokeratology lens to change the shape of the cornea, but this will not change the structure of the cornea.

Tao Ye, deputy director of Beijing Ming Optometry and Eye Surgery Center, said that the compression effect flattens the central area of the cornea, which can slow down the growth of the eye axis, thereby correcting vision: "The elasticity of the cornea is not the same as other tissues. After it is flattened, it will There is a relatively slow time course that gradually returns to its original natural shape."

This also means that the effects of wearing orthokeratology lenses are only temporary.

It is similar to contact lenses, but the period of use is different.

Usually, myopic patients wear orthokeratology lenses at night, take them off after waking up, and get clear vision during the day. After stopping use, the vision will return to the previous degree.

Therefore, it is used to control the further progression of myopia, not to cure myopia.

Tao Ye pointed out that being able to see things clearly after a reasonable correction can give the brain a positive feedback - the eyes are now in good condition and no other changes are needed: "This helps to control the development of myopia. In addition, at present, the vast majority of myopia It is axial myopia—the length of the eyeball is constantly elongated to cause myopia. After using orthokeratology lens, it can cause the peripheral retina to show a state of myopia and defocus, ease the degree of axial growth, and can induce the retina.”

Not "OK" for Everyone

In use, adverse reactions that may occur when wearing contact lenses may also occur when using orthokeratology lenses, such as eye infections caused by improper lens care.

However, unlike ordinary contact lenses, orthokeratology lenses use high-permeability and oxygen-permeable polymer materials that can be worn at night.

Orthokeratology lenses sound similar to daily contact lenses, but they are medical devices that need to be fitted in a medical institution.

Before fitting an orthokeratology lens, a strict, meticulous and comprehensive eye examination must be carried out to exclude wearing contraindications, and tailor-made according to various parameters of the individual eye to ensure safe and effective use.

Feng Xueliang, chief physician of Shanxi Provincial Eye Hospital, said that not all children and adolescents are suitable for wearing orthokeratology lenses: "Because it has a range of correction degrees, usually more than 400 degrees, the correction effect is not good, and individual brands can correct it. 600 degrees. In addition, myopic eye diseases, allergies, or the shape of the eyes can affect whether they can wear orthokeratology lenses.”

Do adults still have time to use orthokeratology lenses?

In this regard, Tao Ye said that it is basically effective for adults to temporarily correct vision, but because the corneal elasticity of adults is smaller than that of children and adolescents, the effect is weaker.

At the same time, he emphasized that the main purpose of children and adolescents using orthokeratology lenses is to control the deepening of myopia, not just to solve vision problems.

Eating sweets also affects vision

The latest data shows that the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents in my country is 53.6%.

Among them, 14.5% of 6-year-old children, 36% of primary school students, 71.6% of junior high school students, and 81% of high school students.

The "Notice on Further Standardizing Campus Vision Testing and Myopia Prevention and Control Services" pointed out that under the current medical technology conditions, myopia cannot be cured.

In this way, Tao Ye pointed out that it is possible to prevent or prevent the development of myopia only if the eye habits are improved.

He suggested that children and adolescents should not use their eyes at close range for a long time, and should adjust the "seeing far and near" for about 20 minutes to relax their eyes.

At the same time, do outdoor activities to get in touch with natural light.

In addition, Tao Ye also pointed out that eating sweets will make the sclera saccharification and soften the eyeball, which makes it easier to deform and elongate. Therefore, it is recommended that children and adolescents eat less sweets.
