Watch the clip to see when Adam takes his very first passport photo and what the police suggest about what you can do to get a passport time faster.

Magnus Åberg believes that the long waiting time for a passport is a direct consequence of what the police internally call the accumulated passport debt.

This means that during the past two years, many have chosen to postpone their application for a new passport.

Now that the restrictions have been released, the police's pass unit is facing such high pressure that they now need to hire new staff and relocate staff to meet demand.

When SVT Nyheter Väst visits the police passport center in Gothenburg, it is full of people in the premises.

People of all ages are sitting or standing waiting for their numbers to be called out in the speakers.

Adam, 2 years old, who is here for the first time, runs around the digital self-staffing counters.

- We took the opportunity to take his first passport now that we would still change our passports, says Valerie, Adam's mother.

Police call: Have ice in your stomach

The police regularly release times on their appointment system and Magnus Åberg advises those who are not in urgent need of renewing their passport, to wait a bit and have ice in their stomachs.

According to him, the situation will ease in the spring when the resources are in place.

- In region west, we work together to try to solve this challenge and we take measures to ease the pressure for passport applications, says Magnus Åberg, chief of staff at the police in the Greater Gothenburg area.

Even in Halland, there are long waiting times to apply for a passport.

The first free time is in mid-May.
