In a normal month, about 20 people apply to the Home Guard's Södertörn group, which includes the Roslagsbataljonen and Södertörnsbataljonen.

Following SVT's reporting on the applications, more than 60 new applications were received in just a few days.

- The anxious world situation and the attention in the media has probably made many people open their eyes to the Home Guard, says Major Björn Svensson.

Everyone must be safety tested

The many applications mean more work for those who work with the recruitment for the Home Guard and Södertörnsgruppen has just recruited a new recruitment manager.

Each applicant is visited in their home for about four hours to be interviewed and undergo a security check.

- We need more people in the Home Guard, but now we are soon starting to approach the limit of what we can receive, says Björn Svensson.
