Putin and Lavrov on the European sanctions list after the invasion of Ukraine

Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy chief, said the European bloc had agreed to include Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on its list of individuals subject to sanctions, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"Let me announce that the only world leaders subject to EU sanctions are Assad from Syria, Lukashenko from Belarus and now Putin from Russia," Borrell said at a press conference after a meeting of EU foreign ministers to outline details of his sanctions against Russia.

In London, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told his NATO allies on Friday that he intends to impose "imminent" sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after the invasion of Ukraine, the Prime Minister announced.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said that after the first series of sanctions decided this week, targeting the wealthy and Russian banks, Britain will impose "sanctions on President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov in the form of imminent."
