After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces closed ports and stopped commercial transport.

Citing a Ukrainian official, Reuters reported that this is raising concerns about disruptions in the supply chain for grain and rapeseed.

Russia had previously banned commercial vessels from sailing in the Azov Sea, an inland sea in southeastern Ukraine, but kept ports in the Black Sea open.

American grain trader Cargill said one of its leased cargo ships was hit by a projectile while sailing in Ukrainian territorial waters in the Black Sea.

However, the vessel is safe to navigate and all crew members are safe, Cargill said.

It is not known where the attack on the Cargill cargo ship was, but Bloomberg said the attack was the first to physically damage the region's commodity trade.
