The Republic of Cyprus celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, yesterday, in the presence of its President, Nicos Anastasiades, who attended the official ceremony and witnessed the traditional folklore music of his country.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, welcomed President Anastasiades upon his arrival at the site of the international event.

The Cypriot president said: "Expo 2020 Dubai, being the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, represents an amazing springboard for cultures and ideas, and promotes collective global action in facing the many challenges that we must address, in areas such as emergency response. Health, smart agriculture, food security, cyber security, climate change, marine safety, and alternative energy sources.”

He added: “I invite you all to the Cyprus Pavilion, which embodies one of the most prominent characteristics and strengths of our country. Our strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and Asia highlights our potential to explore mutually beneficial synergies in areas such as education, arts and culture, gastronomy, tourism and business. and investment.”

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak said: “Cyprus' participation highlights its central location and capabilities that qualify it to be a true crossroads in our contemporary world.

While emphasizing its rich heritage and the tremendous opportunities it provides as a distinguished destination for business, investment and tourism.”

He added: "The UAE enjoys distinguished relations with Cyprus based on the values ​​of friendship and mutual respect;

We look forward to exploring opportunities for further cooperation in areas of importance to our two countries, such as education and cultural exchange, in order to establish solid and lasting relations between the Emirati and Cypriot peoples.”

The guests were welcomed by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra with a performance based on traditional dances and songs widely performed across the country.

After the official ceremony in Al Wasl Square, the delegation toured the Cypriot and UAE pavilions before heading to the leadership pavilion, where a meeting was held that witnessed the signing of bilateral agreements.
