A man in his 60s has been arrested in India who impersonated a doctor, married more than 18 women and extorted money.

On the 23rd local time, local media such as the Hindustan Times and Al Jazeera reported that Indian police are conducting an investigation into Bidu Prakash Swain, a man in his 60s.

According to her reports, Swain used her fake IDs and forged doctor's licenses to introduce herself as a doctor in her 50s on her matchmaking site, and has repeatedly met and married wealthy professional women.

In an Indian society that values status, he has deceived women into saying that he is receiving high wages in a high social position, and he has taken unfair financial gains from them in the name of marriage.

But Swain was a married woman in her 60s, not a single doctor in her 50s.

He married his first marriage in 1978 and had three children. After that, he moved from city to city, dating and marrying other women.

Swain's scam was discovered in May of last year when his wife, who worked as a teacher in Delhi, looked at his cell phone.

Not only did his cell phone store the contact information of several women, but the names of the women's phone numbers contained the names of the cities in which the women lived.

Swain's fraudulent activities were put to an end when police received the report and arrested Swain.

A police official said in an interview with AFP news agency, "He has been scamming mainly for money and pleasure."

Police are continuing the investigation after confirming that he spent 10 million rupees (about 160 million won) at 13 banks on 128 counterfeit credit cards.
