Canadian authorities imposed sanctions on Sberbank, VTB, Russian Railways and Gazprom

Sanctions are also being imposed on the head of Sberbank German Gref, the chairman of the VEB.RF state corporation Igor Shuvalov, businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin and the Rotenberg brothers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced sanctions against Russia in connection with the recognition of the DNR and LNR.

In particular, the Canadian authorities banned citizens from conducting financial transactions with the republics and imposed sanctions against Russian parliamentarians.

Oleg Stepanov, the Russian ambassador in Ottawa, called the West's sanctions against Russia useless.
