Vladimir Putin launched on the night of Wednesday to Thursday a "special military operation" aimed at "demilitarizing" and "denazifying" Ukraine.

A few minutes later, shelling began in several cities, including Kiev, Odessa and even Lviv, located 50 kilometers from Poland.

This scenario had been feared for several weeks and the international sanctions against Russia will not have deterred the strongman of the Kremlin.

The offensive sparked an international outcry to which Moscow remains deaf.

And, two days after recognizing the independence of the Ukrainian separatist territories of Donbass, the Russian president, who claimed to want to "defend" them against Ukrainian aggression, gave the signal for hostilities.

In an address to the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared martial law across the country.

"Don't panic", "we will win", he said.
