More than 800 kilometers of cycle paths in the final stage and costs of 152 million euros for 187 improvements are the impressive figures of the cycle traffic concept, which the district council unanimously approved on Monday.

Since a number of cycle paths are on federal or country roads, such as the one that has just started between Steinbach and Eschborn, or the costs are borne by the municipalities, 28 million euros are left for the district itself.

Subsidies are again expected for them.

In the district council meeting, the speakers from almost all factions praised the concept that had been developed over the course of a year.

"The bike can thus become a real, safe alternative without pushing back the car," said Norbert Fischer (CDU).

Ellen Enslin (Die Grünen) emphasized the importance of a connection to the train stations.

It is correct that the district takes over the coordination for the supra-local expansion of cycle paths.

"We have some catching up to do here."

Only the AfD does not support the cycle paths

In contrast to the expansion of the Taunusbahn, there was still a need for a change in awareness when it came to cycling, said Beate Denfeld (SPD).

Now there is a basis for planning for the next 13 years.

Like Enslin, Holger Grupe (FDP) also praised the participation of the citizens.

He spoke out in favor of speedy implementation of the proposals, which would have to be ranked because of the long planning periods.

The AfD was the only parliamentary group to abstain.

Paul Beuter called a regional cycle path network of this kind "exaggerated" in view of the aging society and the topography of the Taunus.
